About the Nuclear Threat Initiative:
The Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization with a mission to strengthen global security by reducing the risk of use and preventing the spread of nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons and to work to build the trust, transparency, and security that are preconditions to the ultimate fulfillment of the Non-Proliferation Treaty’s goals and ambitions.
As an independent yet trusted partner, NTI has been able to push the envelope of traditional thinking within global bureaucracies and expert communities and stimulate new ways to address threats from weapons of mass destruction.
One of NTI’s hallmarks is its operating model. Recognizing that governments have most of the resources and authority in the large-scale work of threat reduction, NTI emphasizes leverage. NTI uses this leverage to raise awareness and advocate solutions; undertake direct action projects that demonstrate new ways to reduce threats; and foster new thinking about these problems.
Project:
The FSI Global Policy intern will work for a period of nine or ten weeks during summer 2022. Depending on the interest and skillset of the intern, they will be chosen for either one of our programs including; Nuclear, Biological, Science & Technology, Communications, International Nuclear Fuel Cycle Strategies or Materials Risk Management.
While an intern's primary focus will be on NTI activities and projects, we encourage our interns to attend relevant congressional hearings, briefings at think tanks, or other career enhancing opportunities, and to develop their professional network throughout his/her internship. NTI will offer each intern an opportunity to build a relationship with a mentor in addition to a day-to-day manager to help ensure that the intern receives regular guidance and feedback. NTI also hosts regular, internal "brown bag" sessions and seminars open to the public; interns are encouraged to participate.
NTI interns play critical roles on our teams, working to advance our mission objectives while learning more about the WMDD community in the process. Responsibilities can include research and analytic support, event logistics support, and front desk administrative tasks necessary for accomplishing team objectives.
Eligibility and Skills Required:
The internship is open to continuing undergraduate and graduate students with a preference for students with an interest in non-proliferation, international security, and defense. NTI looks for exceptional interpersonal skills and strong organizational, writing, and communication skills. Selectees will be expected to join on a prescheduled orientation day.

Stipend:
FSI is committed to providing its opportunities to students regardless of financial constraints. FSI's Global Policy interns are provided with a stipend to cover travel and living expenses during the summer. These stipends do not exceed $6,400 per student. Students must submit a budget with their estimated costs along with their application.
