We are seeking two student research interns to support a scoping review focused on mapping artists serving in government roles across the United States. This is an exciting remote opportunity to contribute to a national research initiative at the intersection of arts, public service, and health led by Dr. Jill Sonke. This position will be offered for a period lasting from January through March 2026.
Project Overview:
As a part of Stanford Arts’ U.S. Cultural Policy Fellows Program, the study aims to explore the presence and impact of artists in government and public sector roles. The research will be conducted through three primary data streams:
Artists in Government Program Mapping: A quantitative scan using public databases and records to identify artists in government positions;
National Artist in Government Program Survey: A structured questionnaire distributed to identified artists and relevant field networks; and
Verification and Clarification Calls: Semi-structured interviews to contextualize and validate findings from the mapping and survey phases.
Key Responsibilities:
Collect data online and via phone or Zoom to identify and validate key data points related to artists in government roles
Enter and organize data in an Excel matrix for tracking and analysis
Verify data through phone calls and email correspondence
In your cover letter, please include details about your experience/background in the arts and/or public service, and why you're interested in this specific research opportunity.
Eligibility and Requirements:
Stanford Undergraduate, Co-Term, or Graduate student
Commitment of 10-15 hours per week, including a required Zoom meeting on Fridays from 11:00AM-1:30PM (PST)/2:00–4:30 PM (EST)
