About the company: Danco aims to improve lives by striving to innovate and create sustainable solutions for the water and sanitation sector. We provide a total solution for water providers from manufacturing pipes, consulting on installation and design, and we recently launched East Africa's first automated metering project.
Project Description: We would like to make an impact in the agricultural sector in Kenya. Being involved in the water sector, we believe good irrigation and knowledge can improve yields of crops and impact farmers’ lives. Danco is looking for an intern to explore how we can make an impact in this sector using our current base, by understanding our target consumer and their needs and pain points so that we can use existing technology and research to develop a strategy or product that can make a difference and be commercially viable. The intern can lead the project and seek help from my team and myself and would look to complete the following: 1. Get an overall understanding of the agricultural sector in Kenya through the current experience we have, our company's position, and by meeting with small holder and larger farmers and some key partners. 2. Using design thinking and customer interviews, gain an understanding and test customer pain points and overall needs. This will also include key points in distribution and availability of good products, customers’ knowledge and how they learn to improve their farms and how we can make an impact to them. 3. Using the research we gather, hold team strategy meetings and get individual thoughts on what Danco can offer in this sector. The expected deliverable would be: a better insight that is consumer centric on the agricultural sector, the key gaps, problems and requirements to make a success in this sector, and if possible, a strategy that Danco can follow to make an impact to small holder farmers through better irrigation practice, knowledge sharing, and a commercially-based project to move forward.
