The Cantor Arts Center is seeking Program Assistants to provide onsite support in preparing, coordinating, and staffing the museum’s wide range of academic and public programs for museum visitors. Program Assistants will work with the Department of Academic and Public Programs to facilitate welcoming and inclusive engagement within the museum. Program Assistants will develop skills in public engagement, event planning, arts education, facilitation, and data collection.
Attendance for the full day of Art for All Family Day on Sunday, October 12, 2025, 8am–4pm, is required for all Program Assistants. Two times a year the Stanford museums (Anderson Collection and Cantor Arts Center) welcome families on a Sunday for a festive day of free art-making activities, scavenger hunts, storytimes, and live music performances on the Cantor’s North Lawn. Program Assistants serve as museum art educators to facilitate art-making activities and help children and their adults build exciting connections with the art on view in the Stanford museums. Art for All Family Days will take place on October 12, 2025 and April 19, 2026, 8am–4pm.
In addition to Art for All Family Days, Program Assistants work a minimum of 1–2 hours per week to support a number of engaging programs at the Cantor. Other programs and projects include:
Conducting in-person visitor surveys to evaluate visitor experience
Assembling and stocking free educational Art Kits and Family Guides for young visitors
Staffing and producing student programs such as Party on the Edge (to be held May 21, 2026 this year) and Art & Boba Talks
Supporting visitor experience for public programs, which include artist talks, panel discussions, screenings, and performances
Requirements: Applicants must be friendly, reliable, responsive to email, have good communication and organizational skills, and be able to manage time and resources effectively. The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation. These requirements include lifting and transporting boxes and materials up to 40 pounds, working in outdoor weather conditions Must be able to work from 9am–4pm on October 12, 2025 and commit to working at least 1–2 hours a week on other projects and programs throughout the fall quarter. Commitment to this position is a minimum of one academic quarter, but Program Assistants are welcome and encouraged to extend this to additional quarters.
Program Assistants are paid an hourly rate commensurate with the Stanford pay scale for students. This position is open to any Stanford student, including undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Students with a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences are encouraged to apply. Prior experience with museums, art, or event planning is not necessary. Applicants should have an interest in museums, museum programming, and/or museum education.
