Center for Asia-Pacific Resilience and Innovation (CAPRI) is a nongovernmental, nonpartisan, international organization founded in 2022 to enhance global resilience and promote innovative policy by drawing on the experience of the Asia-Pacific region through comparative public policy research. CAPRI’s values of independence, integrity, and inclusivity guide its work on meeting challenges to resilience at the intersection of health, economy, environmental sustainability, and innovation in the Asia Pacific, particularly in the high-income societies.
Project:
The student will work with the CAPRI research team on the following projects:
Planning our annual trilateral conference on innovation, which will focus on AI and emerging technology policy across Asia, Europe, and North America
Supporting our current project on the connections among energy, economic, and security policy in the Asia Pacific
Challenges facing Asia-Pacific actors in global supply chains
Specific tasks include:
Strategize with team and research partners on audience, format, thesis
Gather research from primary and secondary sources
Meet and interview experts within CAPRI’s network
Support CAPRI’s convening planning and execution
Eligibility & Skills Required:
The internship is open to continuing undergraduate and graduate students. Students from any department are welcome to apply. Applicants must be in good academic standing with a GPA of 3.3 or higher.
Required
A basic understanding of systematic, objective public policy research
A strong interest in public policy and governance in the Asia Pacific
Demonstrated ability to work independently or collaboratively in a fast-paced, multicultural environment with international colleagues
Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication skills in English
Preferred
Background in public health, environmental, or economic policy
Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese or other Asian languages
Experience in research, communications, events or development for a research organization or NPO
Language Requirement:
Speaking, reading, listening, and writing skills in Mandarin Chinese (or another Asian language) at any level are preferred but not required. All staff speak both Mandarin and English (among other languages), so Mandarin language skills will provide more opportunities for engagement in the office and in the policy community of Taiwan.
Location:
The internship is located in Taipei, Taiwan.
Visa information:
Some passport holders (i.e., US, EU, Japan) can stay in Taiwan for 90 days visa free as a visitor (see visa-exempt countries here). Should the stay last 90+ days or the student holds a non-visa-exempt passport, the student must apply for an intern visa by March/April.
Stipend:
FSI is committed to providing its opportunities to students regardless of financial constraints. FSI’s Global Policy Interns are provided with a stipend to cover travel and living expenses during the summer. These stipends do not exceed $7,000 per student. Students must submit a budget with their estimated costs along with their application.
