About the Central Asian Policy Studies Unlock
CAPS Unlock (Central Asian Policy Studies Unlock), is an autonomous Central Asian think-and-do-tank based in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Our work recognizes the interlocking nature of social, political, economic and ecological developments internationally—particularly those of the wider region, Afghanistan, the Caucasus, China, Mongolia and Russia. We aim to develop responses to key policy challenges facing the five countries in the Central Asian region that engages local thinkers and actors, critically assesses international ‘best practices’, and advances the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms. Our approach to policy analysis is interdisciplinary, collaborative and evidence-based; we strive to unravel the complex interplays between global dynamics, regional social-economic challenges, to further fundamental rights and freedoms and sustain the natural environments and ecosystems. Our mission is therefore to promote just and humanitarian policy outcomes that further the rule-of-law and fundamental rights in Central Asia through quality, fact-based research and compelling policy advocacy.
