About Cyber Threat Alliance
The Cyber Threat Alliance (CTA) is a non-profit, membership-based cyber threat intelligence sharing organization. Our mission is to enable our members to better protect their customers, support the disruption of malicious cyber activity, and raise the level of cybersecurity across the digital ecosystem. We have approximately 36 members headquartered in 12 countries.
Project:
CTA produces 2-4 joint analytic reports (JARs) per year on a variety of cybersecurity-related topics; we choose the specific report based on input from the CTA community. These reports result from an ad hoc group of CTA members, partners, and interested organizations coming together for a short period (3-4 months) to combine insights and information. CTA staff take the lead in organizing, overseeing, developing, and drafting the report, combining the insights of the participants into a final document. Typically, 15 or so organizations from the CTA community contribute to these reports.
JARs require considerable CTA staff time to manage. Therefore, we would have the intern work with the CTA lead on the report. We usually pick the topic just a few months in advance, so we cannot specify the report topic at this time. However, examples of our previous reports can be found on our website.
In addition, we would expect the intern to help update our industry analysis to ensure that it is accurate. This project would be similar to the one from 2024. In addition, if they have some familiarity with graphics, we would also use an intern to help update our graphics catalog.
The intern would assist the Chief Recruitment Officer, Lead Data Analyst, and Lead Report Analyst in working on the projects listed above. Specific tasks could include:
Drafting emails and other communications
Briefing analytic results to CTA leadership and members
Conducting on-line research
Attending meetings
Compiling and analyzing previous work in these areas
Eligibility and Skills Required:
The internship is open to continuing undergraduate and graduate students. Students from any department are welcome to apply. Applicants must be in good academic standing with a GPA of 3.3 or higher.
We would like an intern who can communicate clearly, ask good questions, and think analytically. Beyond that, we would look for diverse background and thinking. Although some knowledge of cybersecurity policy or exposure to the field would be a plus, we would not expect the intern to have technical expertise, such as coding skills.
Language Requirement:
N/A
Location:
The internship is located in Washington D.C., USA
Stipend:
FSI is committed to providing its opportunities to students regardless of financial constraints. FSI’s Global Policy Interns are provided with a stipend to cover travel and living expenses during the summer. These stipends do not exceed $7,000 per student. Students must submit a budget with their estimated costs along with their application. If you have additional financial constraints that you think may prevent you from participating in this program, please contact FSI Academic Program Coordinator Patrick Laboon directly.
