The Geopolitics and Security Studies Center, GSSC (previously known as Eastern Europe Studies Centre, EESC) is an independent, non-profit think-tank operating in Vilnius since 2006, focusing on the analysis of international policy processes and Lithuania’s role in them. The GSSC brings together experts in various fields, publishes analytical material, organises events, and carries out international and national projects. The Centre’s founders are the Government of the Republic of Lithuania and Vilnius University.
Project:
Policy Papers and Analytical Bulletins
The internship involves drafting policy papers and analytical bulletins, as well as participating in public and closed meetings with academia, experts, and decision-makers.
Available Projects for the Intern:
Project 1: Policy Paper on the State of US-PRC Competition
This project entails preparing a study on the history, current status, and future perspectives of US-PRC strategic competition, with a focus on the current security outlook in the Indo-Pacific region.
Project 2: Policy Paper on NATO Transformation with Emphasis on US Defense Commitments in Europe
This project involves producing a paper on current trends in NATO transformation (e.g., the New Force Model and the Enhanced Deterrence Initiative) and examining possible changes in the US defense posture in the European theater.
Project 3: Policy Paper on US, Europe, and PRC Economic and Trade Relations
This project requires analyzing trends in US, Europe, and PRC trade and economic relations, with a focus on potential policies for derisking and decoupling with respect to the PRC.
Specific tasks include:
The intern will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and organizing data; producing written analyses; conducting literature reviews; and engaging in interviews and consultations with decision-makers and experts.
Eligibility and Skills Required:
The internship is open to continuing undergraduate and graduate students. Students from any department are welcome to apply. Applicants must be in good academic standing with a GPA of 3.3 or higher.
Additional required skills and characteristics include:
Strong analytical and writing skills; prior research experience is a plus.
Ability to collect, analyze, and organize data from both written and oral sources.
Familiarity with and knowledge of current challenges in international and security affairs, including:
The state of US-PRC competition.
NATO transformation, with an emphasis on US defense commitments in Europe.
The state of US, Europe, and PRC economic and trade relations.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Stipend:
FSI is committed to providing its opportunities to students regardless of financial constraints. FSI’s Global Policy Interns are provided with a stipend to cover travel and living expenses during the summer. These stipends do not exceed $7,000 per student. Students must submit a budget with their estimated costs along with their application.
