We are hiring a team of undergraduate or co-term climate resilience field interns to support a social science field research project in California’s Eastern Sierra Nevada region during summer 2024. The Pinyon Community Climate Action Project (PiCCA) is a collaborative, community-based project to improve understanding of community needs and values for forest stewardship and the impacts of climate change on residents in the Sierra Nevada. Our work is part of an interdisciplinary applied research initiative to improve the social-ecological resilience of forests to climate change through social science, policy and planning, and environmental science in California.
Shared housing will be provided at the University of California’s White Mountain Research Center in Bishop, CA and the Valentine Eastern Sierra Reserve in Mammoth Lakes, CA. Field interns will need to be based in these locations for the fieldwork period. Note that much of the summer work will be done at high elevation (Valentine Eastern Sierra Reserve is 8,000 feet above sea level), so prior experience at high altitude is recommended.
The pay rate is $22.19/hour and crew members will work five 8-hour days each week with free weekends. The field season will run from June 17 to August 11, 2024.
Engage with community members daily throughout the region while administering a household survey in Mono and Inyo counties.

Additional qualitative research tasks as assigned
