The Poverty, Violence, and Governance Lab is hiring a full-time undergraduate Research Assistant (RA) for the '24 summer quarter. The RA will work on our current research on gender-based violence in conflict zones. Specifically, you will help map the presence of drug cartels in Mexico based on news sources in Spanish. Spanish proficiency is required.
About the position:
You will commit to working full-time (35+ hours/week) for 10 weeks (full summer quarter).
The position is remote but with access to PovGov's offices in Encina Hall.
You will receive a VPUE grant of 7500 USD at the end of your work.
What we are looking for in our RA:
Discipline, independence and ability to deliver results under strict deadlines.
Demonstrated interest in violence, poverty and governance in general.
Previous work experience as a Research Assistant.
Major in a relevant field of social sciences: Political Science, Sociology, Anthropology, Journalism, Latin American Studies, Criminology.
Ability to remain motivated despite the repetitive nature of the validation process.
You will be working with a team of dedicated scholars whose mission is to innovative methodologies and data streams to generate scientific understanding about the causes, consequences, and dynamics of violence. We aim with our research to contribute to restore peace, security, and protect human rights.
