Program Overview:
The Sustainable Stanford Fellowship provides Stanford students real-world sustainability leadership and project management opportunities that meaningfully advance Stanford’s operational sustainability goals. Launched in partnership with the LBRE Office of Sustainability, the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability, and the Bill Lane Center for the American West, fellowship projects drive collaboration and impact across many schools, departments, and operational units throughout Stanford's sustainability infrastructure and programs.
Fellows are matched with pre-vetted campus sustainability projects spanning topic areas such as Zero Waste, Climate Action, Behavior Change, Scope 3 Emissions, Building Systems and Operations, Education and Outreach, Data Management and Analytics, Transportation, Land Use, and more.
Program Support Structures
Fellows participate in a mandatory 1-unit course during the fall quarter (SUSTAIN 120 - Leading Organizational Change for Sustainability), and receive mentorship and support from Stanford staff, faculty, and peer fellows. Each fellow also develops a project-specific advisory board composed of subject-matter experts and industry professionals. Students from all academic backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
The program accepts applications during Winter Quarter only, for participation in the following academic year.
Applications are now open for the 2026-27 academic year and are due by February 23, 2026. Please scroll to the bottom of the page to apply through Sustainable Stanford.
