The summer undergraduate research programs in SDSS provide undergraduates with opportunities to work on a faculty-mentored research project for 10 weeks over the summer quarter. We have several different summer programs for Stanford students that all offer educational and community building experiences that engage across programs. These programs are:
HI-SURF - for all research experiences at Hopkins Marine Station
MUIR - for environmental projects from all Stanford faculty
SESUR - for all SDSS faculty in all departments, including CEE
SUPER - for energy projects from all Stanford faculty
To apply for any of our summer research programs, you must develop a project proposal with a faculty member (and likely a graduate student or postdoc) who will serve as additional research mentor(s). Faculty have submitted over 80 exciting projects available this coming summer and you can view all of them here: Summer project teasers. You can also reach out to faculty in the Doerr School of Sustainability who you would like to work with to discuss possible research projects for the summer.
For more information on each of the programs and how to apply, please visit our website.
What you will do
Hands-on and engaging research experience with a Stanford faculty member
Cohort-building activities such as weekly seminars and field trips
Opportunity to present your research at the SDSS Undergraduate Research Symposium in October
