Yenching Academy of Peking University offers funding for a Master's program in China Studies. This English-taught degree program aims to push the study of China beyond the boundaries of traditionally defined Humanities and Social Sciences disciplines. All Yenching Scholars receive a full fellowship that covers tuition, one round-trip journey to Beijing, basic insurance, and living costs.
Each year the Yenching Academy admits 120 scholars from 40+ countries and regions.

Personal Statement - (maximum 750 words) in English, should include a self-introduction and well-articulated explanation of how the candidate would make the most of the Yenching Academy Program experience, as well as how it would benefit the candidate’s career.
Statement of Research Interest (maximum 1,500 words excluding citations) should include key research question(s), background to study and/or summary of literature, and study design.

Two Academic Letters of Recommendation and Two Yenching Recommendation Forms (available at the OGS) are to be submitted by our campus deadline.
The recommendations should be written by full professors or associate professors (or equivalent titles) from Stanford. In the letters, the references should comment on the applicant's achievements (academic abilities), character (personal qualities), and potential (leadership potential and suitability of the program).
Recommenders for Stanford applicants will not upload their letters to the Yenching Academy online application portal.
Recommendation writers send via email the reference letters and recommendation form directly to Diane Murk at dmurk@stanford.edu and copy globalscholarships@stanford.edu. The OGS will forward the electronic letters to the Yenching Academy.
Letters should be on letterhead stationary with the signature and sent as a PDF.

A candidate for the Yenching Academy of Peking University Fellowship Program must meet all the following criteria:
Eligibility requirements:
Recent university graduate. Must hold a bachelor’s degree by August 31
Preference will be given to those 25 years old or younger (Average age of students entering the program is 23)
Outstanding academic record
Strong interest in interdisciplinary study of China
Record of extracurricular achievement, community engagement, social responsibility, and leadership potential
Note: All students and alumni of partner universities are required to apply through their universities. (Stanford is a partner university with the Yenching Academy Program.)
Stanford Yenching applicants must have been in contact with the Office of Global Scholarships, Bechtel International Center prior to the campus submission deadline.
