Internship eligibility requirement: Stanford Undergraduate and Graduate students (MBA, MSx, MA, MS, PhD) may participate
About the company: Alpha Direct is an exciting and vibrant young company, operating in the insurance and insuretech space in Africa. Located at the Botswana Innovation Hub (dubbed the "Silicon Valley of Africa") in Gaborone, we are a young and energetic team of insurance professionals looking to transform Africa through innovation.
Project Description: We're looking for a team of two MBA or business-focused undergrad students who would like to manage and lead a brand new and innovative project in the microinsurance space across Africa. We are developing a new model of microinsurance based on radical new delivery models, coupled with unique incentives to spread awareness and uptake in the hugely untapped mass market. We intend to drive financial inclusion amongst the millions of uninsured people across the African continent. The concept requires bundling internet services with insurance products in a simple, easy-to-use model. The end consumer buys internet connectivity and receives insurance coverage as a bundled package. This will require a lot of design thinking, budgeting, forecasting, planning, delegation, and hands-on execution to deliver a working prototype by the end of the internship period. The project will also involve coordination among various parties (e.g. bandwidth providers, programmers, retail outlets) that the intern will be working with during the course of the internship. For any student looking to gain experience in emerging markets, fintech or insuretech, this will be an incredible experience to learn from.
